Wait Times Are Coming Down!

200px-US-AlcoholTobaccoFirearmsAndExplosives-Seal.svg_-150x150For the last few months, we've had a hard time determining exactly how long the wait times were for paper Form 4's because the ATF was processing forms from a time when we were submitting everything electronically. It looks like they're finally catching up and we're seeing forms that were submitted in the beginning of May now.  That's barely 5 months for a paper Form 4 transfer! The NFA Branch has been saying that they're trying to pull wait times down - and now we're seeing the direct results of that. Now that we're getting paper forms back again, be sure to keep an eye on our ATF Wait Time Tracker to see exactly what we've gotten back in the last 7 days!

Do you have to get a form from ATF to get a permit to buy a silencer?

I just got one of mine back. Sent in on mailed on May 10, approved on September 27 and received back on October 1.

Good to see the process catching up, I am waiting on five Form 4’s currently. I recently got back two Form 1’s, the first was an e-filed trust that was approved in 22 days, the second was a mailed paper trust that was approved in 95 days.

You guys did my paper Form 4 trust for a can I’m currently waiting on. I have an AR pistol I would like to e-file a Form 1 trust for so can legally convert to SBR. Can you guys handle this for me too for a fee?

I’ve been waiting 13+ weeks and my Form 3’s haven’t even come back yet. Doesn’t seem very fast to me………

      Hi Kyle,

We do have some on occasion that that run in to issues at the ATF where they are lost etc. and have to be resent. We have been looking in to your issue to get it resolved as quickly as possible. Sorry for the delay on this.

If i choose to use a free gun trust, which one should I use? any suggestions? Are there any downsides to this approach to buying a silencer?

    • Gary Groppe says:

Not sure we would recommend a free gun trust. Would go with one created by an attorney. Buying a suppressor via a trust is by far the most common and flexible approach to buying.
