eForms Status Update

logo_eForms-150x135The ATF is slowly bringing the different electronic forms online – including both Form 1 and Form 2 submissions.  (We are still waiting for electronic Form 3 and 4 submissions.)

Aside from this observation, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything solid from the ATF regarding the full return of eForms.  Fortunately, it’s possible this week could finally produce some news from the ATF on the topic.

This week the ATF is holding a roundtable to discuss the future of eForms, and we’re hoping there will be some useful information provided.  We’ll be there with some of our own technical suggestions – and I suspect a lot of other people with be there too (with varying levels of technical ability).

If anything useful comes from the meeting, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Hopefully the fact that Form 1 and 2 submissions are available again, is a good sign for the full return of eForms!

I’d be great if they started incorporating a bit more technology that is readily available and they could likely piggy back on from other agencies.
Realistically, I see no reason why they couldn’t incorporated the ability, with an account, of where you could log in and check all stages of progress on any application if you have the serial number. Similar to calling in to check, but automated. Should be easy with eforms already, and about all that you would need with paper forms, as a help to the reviewer would be barcode stickers and scanners utilized through the review process to auto populate systems with data.

One of the best things about eForms was exactly that – the ability to check status without calling.

Having said that, the status checking was available to dealers; but, not directly to customers. We were actually working on a way to allow customers to check status directly on the website when eForms went down.

After talking to the ATF, I think they’re as excited to have eForms back and running as we are.

Maybe it was better on the dealer side, but I was able to get a couple form 1 submittals before the system went down, and from what I remember all I could tell was that my submittal had been accepted and then when it was done. Not knowing there specific process, but would be really great if you could tell where everything is in the overall process, vs just if the stamp was in the mail.

The dealer I had my suppressor sent through said (back in April or May) that the eForm was down so he submitted everything manually. Can we now also send via eForm or is it once you chose a method your stuck with it? Or is it still “down” as far as you can tell?

eForms are still down – and now we’re not expecting them to come back online this year. It’s never easy to know what the best choice is at the time (especially with the ATF) – but I think you’ll be happy you went with paper.

I filed a form 1 to SBR my PS90 on the site when it first came back up and started accepting them. I just got the approved email two days ago. Total time from submission to approval was 32 days!!!

it appears that the silencershop response time chart is moving backwards (on form 4 at least). it hit 4/1/14 a few weeks ago, was stuck on 3/31/14 for a while, and now it shows 3/27/14. anything weird going on?
